Animal lovers will delight in this new picture book about a long-suffering dog who lives with a gazillion cats.

The story is written in rollicking rhyme and features a cast of felines of all types. It would make a great read-aloud for kids aged 3-7.

The dog in question is a disgruntled Beagle, who gets blamed for the mess the cats make. He’s also kept awake at night by their yowling.

Illustrator Lucinda Gifford has outdone herself with hilarious cartoon-style illustrations, which include a kitty watching TV and one sitting on the loo.

Of course, when the dog in this story gets his way and all the cats scatter, he’s left alone. Which is fine, until it’s not.

Suffice to say, this being a kid’s book, there’s a happy ending when all are reunited.

Too Many Cats can be purchased from Affirm Press and all good bookstores.
